My university hosts a concert series every year for Black singers and performers to celebrate their voices during Black History Month. This year, I am working behind the scenes to help this series thrive and run as smoothly as possible. Before rehearsals began in January, I was in the shop fabricating large show elements for the stage. Then, I was recruited as an Assistant Stage Manager for the show in Savannah to help support the production by tending to the needs of both the cast and crew. It is events like these that really fuel my passion for amplifying marginalized voices in the live entertainment industry! Please note that backstage photos were not allowed, so I was not able to capture any process photos during my work as an Assistant Stage Manager.
